U16 LIONESSES SELECTED FOR CENTRAL YORKSHIRE TALENT HUB

Congratulations to Emily Tiffany & Holly Rycroft (U16’s Lionesses) have been selected for the Central Yorkshire Talent Hub.
Emily has been with the Lionesses for 2 years; she is now the Captain of the U16’s team. Her favoured position is loose forward, but she can play pretty much anywhere she is asked to. She has a good pair of hands, has a strong carry and is an excellent tackler, she is always at training wind, rain or shine, and is always trying to improve.
Holly is in her first season with us having jointed from Cutsyke. She is a talented half back; she is our Vice captain with a good rugby head. She leads the team around the pitch well and is a strong defender and always wants to improve the game.
We look forward to seeing you both progress in your Rugby pathway, keep up the great work Lionesses.

Junior & Youth Team Message from Daz Fisher – Director of Rugby.

It’s great to see our junior and youth teams continue to grow in numbers and develop their potential with the Lions and Lionesses. Great crowds following them too is great to see!
Our community tots/primary had a visit from Featherstone Rovers recently in a taster session and the group had some great activities and hopefully now progress with the fun and activities with our Lions/Lionesses team and we thank Rovers for their contribution.
Hopefully the sunshine continues as we officially reach summer and can’t wait to see you all!!

Word from our head coach and director of rugby - Daz Fisher

We continue to build upon our last months results with some very competitive halves of the game but unfortunately fallen in the latter stages, but being able to compete against the top 4 in the table for big periods of the game is promising and hope the run of home fixtures in June helps us build some momentum to finish the season stronger than we began. It’s great to still be attracting our youth players back to the Lions now with likes of Eli Saul, Alfie Beresford and completing a full move for Brook Stanley from Wakefield Trinity.
Couple of changes in our leadership group to announce, Brandon Corke has handed over the match day captaincy to Jordan Walker as he takes on the new role of Club Captain. Corkey’s work off the field for the team is second to none and it’s greatly appreciated and fully deserves the role. J ordy continues his great form leading on the park and heads our lead on MOM performances some true leadership qualities from him.
Lots h appening in and around our home games with community engagements so keep eyes peeled to see what’s going on and get along to supp ort the boys and the club.

Coaches Needed

We are looking for new lions/lionesses’ coaches for our U6 and U7’s teams. If you would like to be part of the pride please contact our Director of Coaching Daz fisher on
dazfisher.fevlions@hotmail.com who will be happy to meet you and discuss more details with you.

  U14 DIV 2 TEAM

Our U14’s team currently sit in 2nd place in Div 2. They have played 7 games with 4 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. Playing some new opponents such as Emley Moor and Garforth Tigers and against some old rivals Knottingley Mustangs and Normanton Knights. No games have been easy so far in a strong competitive league this season. The Aim is to finish in top 4 pushing for Div 1 next season. The team has a strong squad with some new players recen tly joined. We would like to welcome Rob, Dom, Toby and Imanuel. They are a big addition and it’s great to see them settling into the team. Most of all for the lads is to go out and enjoy playing the game.

Committee News

Theres been lots of work behind the scenes wor king towards securing a better future for the Lions by way of looking at securing grants, organising events, working with local rugby clubs, coach ing, as well as sourcing sponsorship, liaising with the council and working hard on getting the pitc hes in a good condition for the summer season.
We appreciate there are some areas of improvement required within the club and we do have a “To do list” to work through, unfortunately it does seem to get longer every week! However, we will be making a start on
repa iring/refurbishing the ladies’ facilities very soon as well as making some repairs within the shower rooms too. We would like to thank you for supp orting the club and if you would like to contribute in anyway to make a difference please contact us.
