FEATHERSTONE LIONS 04
BIRSTALL VICTORIA 28
YJL U15S DIVISION 1
Featherstone lions u 5s 4 Birstall u 15s 28. it was an after the Lord Mayors show today for lions after their fine win over stanningley in there opening game as last seaons league champions gave them a lesson in attitude and taking there chances. Birstall's defence was rock solid in the secound half as Lions hammered away to no avail it was like men against boys at times as Birstall's powerfull pack bullied Lions into making mistakes. Take nothing away from the visitors this was a committed display by them and credit to them. For lions Ethan crossley gave a fine display on his birthday and never took a back ward step while Kian Fisher did some good running. Seth Emery opened up the visitors defence on a few occasions while Finley Greenwood tried hard to get Lions attack going but Lions were back to their old ways of one up rugby which the visitors defence kept out quite easily. The visitors scored from there first set of six scoring a breakaway try 0 4 you could tell it was gonna be one of them days as Lions kick off went straight into touch. Lions were put under a lot of pressure Max Hobson made a try saving tackle in the corner then Lions had to hack a Birstall chip to the line dead. Jack Kellett was brought into the fray and he put some fire in the Lions belly with a couple of good runs then Dylen Garbett chipped on the last tackle and Kenzie Sprowson followed up to score a good try to leval the scores 4 - 4. Garbett then pulled off a fine tackle on his own try line and Sam Smith made a fine break with the last pass going astray. A chip through on the last tackle led to a Birstall try a goal as the ref blew for half time 4 - 10. The visitors got a dream start in the secound half as a kick over the top was left by two defenders and they took full advantage to grab a try a goal for the game braking points 4 - 16. Lions seemed to be in defensive for a lot of the secound half with many players going down with injuries due to physical running of the visitors pack the visitors wrapped up the scoring with two converted tries 4 - 28. Dan Hetherington went close for Lions but the visitors defence was not going to be Broken. Its back to the drawing board for the Lions now if they are going to complete with the tops sides for honours in the league. They will have to front to front up more when the going gets tough against the bigger and better sides utl
