HISTORIC FIRST UK INTERNATIONAL AT MILLPOND STADIUM
Millpond Stadium played host to a historic occasion as the UK-based Rugby League Jamaica Reggae Warriors took part in their first ever full women’s international on UK soil, facing Scotland Rugby League Women in front of a packed crowd at the home of Featherstone Lions.
It was another fantastic day for the club, with Millpond Stadium providing the backdrop for an exciting and competitive international fixture that showcased the continued growth of women’s rugby league.
The Reggae Warriors, who are proudly based at Millpond Stadium, started the match brightly and led for large periods of the first half, showing real quality, physicality and attacking intent. Scotland, however, responded strongly and eventually took control of the contest, running out 38–12 winners by full-time.
While the result did not go the Warriors’ way, the occasion itself marked a major milestone for the team and for everyone involved. The experience gained from playing in a full international fixture in front of such strong support will be invaluable as the Reggae Warriors continue to develop and build towards future competitions.
Featherstone Lions were honoured to receive a signed shirt, presented to club chairman Andy Bell, a gesture that underlined the strong relationship between the club and the Jamaican women’s programme. We look forward to continuing to support the Reggae Warriors and following their progress as their journey continues.
The club would also like to thank all the Scottish supporters who travelled and helped create a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day, contributing to a memorable occasion for players, officials and spectators alike.
Hosting international rugby league once again highlights the ambition of Featherstone Lions and Millpond Stadium, and we are proud to play a role in supporting the growth of the women’s game at an international level.
