Methley Warriors u12s 28–14 Featherstone Lions U12s | Match Report

Featherstone Lions U12s played their first ever game on a full-size pitch against Methley Warriors.

Featherstone Lions U12s took to a full-size pitch for the first time and started slowly against a much bigger Methley Warriors side. Methley took advantage early, scoring two quick tries before the Lions had even touched the ball.

Once the Lions settled into the game and finally got their hands on the ball, they began to build some strong sets. Their efforts were rewarded when McKenzie Dorrell produced a brilliant solo effort to get the Lions back into the game.

The Lions continued to apply pressure and soon took the lead. From acting half, Linton Lindsey showed great awareness, dummying his way over the line before converting his own try, putting the Lions 10–8 ahead.

Unfortunately the lead didn’t last long. A mistake straight from the kick-off allowed one of Methley’s bigger forwards to power over from close range after the Lions defence failed to move up, giving Methley a 12–10 lead at half time.

Methley extended their advantage early in the second half to 18–10, but the Lions responded well. Some good hands in attack saw Rhylee Thomas sneak over in the corner, bringing the Lions right back into the contest.

Despite their efforts, a number of mistakes proved costly and the Lions couldn’t add any more points. Methley finished strongly, adding two late tries to secure a 28–14 victory.

It was a strong effort from the young Lions in their first experience on a full-size pitch, with plenty of positives to take from the performance.
